Rambles 2016

FRIDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2016

SPUD, AILEEN, ERNEST, ORLA, PHILLIP, JEAN, ANDY & BARNY

WE USED BUSES FROM WESTON, CLEVEDON AND PORTISHEAD, MEETING AT ASHTON COURT, BRISTOL. WALKED UP THE HILLY SLOPES OF ASHTON COURT, LEAVING THIS AREA BY THE TOP GATE NEAR TO THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE. CROSSED THE BRIDGE, HEADING TOWARD THE OBSERVATORY, WHERE WE HAD A PICNIC LUNCH. AFTERWARDS WE CONTINUED WALKING DOWN TO BRANDON HILL AND MADE OUR WAY THROUGH THE CLIFTON SHOPPING AREA, HEADING TOWARDS HOT WELLS TO CATCH OUR RESPECTIVE BUSES HOME.

LOVELY WARM WEATHER, SLIGHT BREEZE. 5½ MILES

FRIDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER 2016

AILEEN, SPUD, JEAN, ERNEST & ORLA

WE CAUGHT THE X5 BUS FROM WESTON, JEAN JOINING US AT OLD STREET, CLEVEDON AND ALIGHTED IN HILL ROAD, CLEVEDON. WE WALKED TOWARDS THE PIER AND ACCESSED THE COASTAL PATH TO PORTISHEAD.

A VERY STRENUOUS UP AND DOWN HIKE ALONG THE COASTAL PATH WITH VIEWS OF THE BRISTOL CHANNEL. WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH IN A GRASSED AREA THEN CONTINUED TO THE SEA FRONT AT PORTISHEAD. AS WE HAD QUITE A LONG TIME TO WAIT FOR OUR BUSES HOME WE STOPPED AT AN ICE CREAM PARLOUR, ENJOYING THE LOVELY WEATHER AND AVAILABLE REFRESHMENTS.

A LOVELY SUNNY DAY. 6 LONG MILES.

FRIDAY 29TH JULY 2016

SPUD, AILEEN, ANDY, BARNY (DOG), ERNEST, ORLA (GUIDE DOG), PHILLIP, MATTHEW AND ROBIN (GUIDE DOG).

WE MET IN WESTON AT 10.30 AM AND CAUGHT THE 100 CROSVILLE BUS TO SAND BAY.

WE BEGAN THE RAMBLE AT SAND BAY WHERE THE THREE DOGS HAD A LOVELY RUN ALONG THE BEACH BEFORE WE BEGAN THE CLIMB TO SAND POINT, USING THE ACCESS FROM THE NATIONAL TRUST CAR PARK. WE CONTINUED IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION TOWARDS ST. THOMAS’S HEAD, DROPPING DOWN TO THE LOWER AREA WHERE WE STOPPED FOR OUR PICNIC LUNCH. WE CONTINUED ON TOWARDS WOODSPRING PRIORY, TURNING LEFT ONTO THE QUIET ROAD HEADING IN THE DIRECTION OF MANOR FARM. UPON REACHING THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH WE TURNED RIGHT HEADING IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION BACK TOWARDS THE BEACH, USING LOTS OF NEW GATES AND BRIDGES, CROSSING A NUMBER OF FIELDS IN ORDER TO REACH BEACH ROAD. WE CONTINUED LEFT BACK TOWARDS THE TERMINUS TO BOARD THE 100 BUS BACK TO WESTON.

RAINING WHEN WE LEFT HOME BUT SUNNY AND WINDY ON THE RAMBLE. A LOVELY WALK FOR THE SUMMER. 5 MILES

FRIDAY 1ST JULY 2016

SPUD, AILEEN, ERNEST & ORLA, PHILLIP.

WE TRAVELLED IN THE CAR TO BURRINGTON COMBE, SOMERSET, PARKING IN THE TOP LAY-BYE.IT WAS A STEEP CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE LARGE ROCK, SEE PHOTO, AND THEN A STEADY WALK DOWN TO THE VILLAGE OF BURRINGTON, GETTING LOST QUITE A FEW TIMES. WE WALKED THROUGH THE PRETTY VILLAGE AND HAD LUNCH ON THE GREEN AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH/SCHOOL.

A HARD CLIMB BACK UP TO THE PEAK, VARYING OUR ROUTE, WHERE WE MET A LOVELY LOCAL LADY OUT WALKING AND SHE POINTED US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BACK TO THE CAR PARK.

6 MILES IN TOTAL. SUN, WIND AND A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS.

FRIDAY 27TH MAY 2016

SPUD, PHILLIP, ANDREW, AILEEN, ERNEST & ORLA.

WE MET IN WESTON NEAR THE SUBWAY SHOP AND CAUGHT THE 9.40 AM NO.4 BUS TO HUTTON. ALIGHTING HERE AFTER A 20 MINUTE RIDE WE WALKED TOWARDS THE CHURCH AND FOLLOWED A PATH UP THROUGH THE WOODS WHICH WAS A VERY LONG CLIMB. WALKING IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION WE CONTINUED ON TO CANADA COMBE WHERE WE JOINED THE WEST MENDIP WAY, FOLLOWING THIS FOR A MILE UNTIL WE REACHED A TARMACED ROAD, WALKING ALONG HERE, EVENTUALLY REACHING THE HAMLET OF CHRISTON WHERE WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH IN THE CHURCH GROUNDS. AFTER LUNCH WE FOLLOWED A PUBLIC FOOTPATH PASSING A FARMHOUSE AND ENTERING A FIELD. CROSSING ANOTHER FIELD WE ENTERED A SMALL WOOD WHICH EVENTUALLY LED US TO ANOTHER FIELD. AT THE END OF THIS FIELD WE CLIMBED A STILE BRINGING US ONTO A TARMACED ROAD. WE CARRIED ON IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION ENDING UP ON WINDMILL ROAD, LEFT THROUGH AND OVER ANOTHER STILE UNTIL WE CAME TO THE MAIN ROAD IN HUTTON WHERE WE CAUGHT THE NO. 4 BUS BACK TO WESTON. 7 STILES IN TOTAL ON THIS RAMBLE.

LOVELY WARM DAY, VERY PLEASANT. 6 MILES

JEAN, PHILLIP, AILEEN, ANDY AND BARNY, ERNEST AND ORLA.

PHILLIP, JEAN, ANDY AND MYSELF MET UP ON THE NEW BRISTOL ROAD AND WALKED TOWARDS WORLE TO MEET ANDREW AND ERNEST.

WE WALKED UP SPRING HILL, ALONG UPPER CHURCH ROAD, THROUGH FOOTPATHS TO JOIN MILTON HILL. WE TURNED INTO WORLEBURY HILL ROAD AND ENTERED WESTON WOODS. WE MADE OUR WAY ALONG THE PATHS AND EXITED ON KEWSTOKE ROAD, CONTINUING ON TO THE COMMODORE HOTEL FOR LUNCH.

AFTER LUNCH WE JOINED THE FOOTPATH/ CYCLE PATH ALONG THE SIDE OF THE TOLL ROAD/WESTON WOODS AS FAR AS BIRNBECK ROAD. HERE WE CONTINUED ALONG ANCHOR HEAD, MARINE LAKE AND ONTO MARINE PARADE. ANDREW LEFT THE GROUP NEAR WESTON COLLEGE TO WALK ON HOME. THE REMAINDER OF THE GROUP CONTINUED ALONG THE SEA FRONT TO THE VICTORIAN CAFÉ WHERE WE HAD REFRESHMENTS WHILST WAITING FOR THE X6 BUS TO TAKE JEAN AND ANDY HOME. ERNEST AND AILEEN CAUGHT THEIR BUS HOME.

THE WEATHER – SUNNY BUT VERY WINDY. 6 MILES IN TOTAL.

FRIDAY 1ST APRIL 2016

SPUD, AILEEN, PHILLIP AND ANDREW WE MET PHILLIP AT THE BUS STOP ON THE NEW BRISTOL ROAD AND WALKED TO WORLE HIGH STREET TO MEET ANDREW. WE WALKED TOWARDS ST MARTINS CHURCH IN WORLE AND CONTINUED UP THROUGH THE CHURCH YARD, ACROSS SEVERAL LANES AND CAME TO THE OLDER PART OF WESTON WOODS CLOSE TO WORLEBURY GOLF COURSE. WE USED THE FOOTPATHS AROUND THE SIDE OF THE GOLF COURSE, CONTINUED ALONG WORLEBURY HILL ROAD AND JOINED THE MAIN WESTON WOODS, EXITING ALONG THE TOLL ROAD INTO WESTON. FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG WESTON SEA FRONT AND CROSSED SEVERAL ROADS TO ACCESS THE REGENCY INN, WHERE WE HAD LUNCH. AFTER LUNCH ANDREW WALKED HOME AND SPUD, PHILLIP AND MYSELF CAUGHT OUR APPROPRIATE BUSES BACK HOME. THE WEATHER WAS DAMP BUT MILD, VERY WINDY ONCE WE ARRIVED AT THE SEA FRONT. 5 MILES IN TOTAL.

FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 2016

SPUD, AILEEN, PHILLIP, ERNEST, ANDREW WE TRAVELLED ON THE X1 BUS TO BACKWELL TRAFFIC LIGHTS. BEGAN THE WALK TURNING INTO STATION ROAD, BACKWELL, TURNING RIGHT ONTO A SIDE ROAD PASSING LOVELY OLD COTTAGES. EVENTUALLY WE JOINED THE CYCLE/FOOTPATH HEADING TOWARDS LONG ASHTON. WE HAD LUNCH AT GATCOMBE FARM, A LOVELY CARVERY. AFTER A WELCOME REST WE CONTINUED WALKING ALONG THE FOOTPATH TOWARDS LONG ASHTON, WALKED THROUGH THE CHURCHYARD AND CAUGHT THE BUS HOME TO WESTON OUTSIDE THE ANGEL PUB. WEATHER WINDY AND LIGHT DRIZZLE AT TIMES. 5 MILES IN TOTAL WALKING.
