THURSDAY 24TH JANUARY 2019

JEAN, ERNEST, ORLA, SPUD AND AILEEN

JEAN, SPUD AND AILEEN WALKED TO WORLE TO MEET ERNEST AND ORLA, CONTINUING ON TO ST. GEORGES, THROUGH THE FOOTPATHS IN NORTH WORLE, TO BEGIN THE RAMBLE.

WE HAD TO CONTINUE ALONG FOOTPATHS TOWARDS THE WIDE GRAVEL PATHS RUNNING ALONG THE EDGE OF FIELDS, THROUGH METAL GATES, ACROSS FIELDS, CROSSING FOOTBRIDGES, WHICH RUN ALONGSIDE THE RHYNES  IN  ST GEORGES. WE EVENTUALLY REACHED THE SIDE ROADS IN WICK ST. LAWRENCE, HEADING TOWARDS THE EBDON ARMS PUBLIC HOUSE, WHERE WE ALL ENJOYED A DELICIOUS MEAL.

AFTER LUNCH WE WALKED BACK TO ST. GEORGES,ACROSS THE FOOTPATHS,  TAKING JEAN TO THE BUS STOP AT ST. GEORGES TURN TO CATCH HER BUS, X5, BACK TO CLEVEDON. WE THEN WALKED ERNEST HOME TO WORLE AND SPUD AND AILEEN WALKED HOME TO MILTON.

A VERY MILD DAY, NO WIND, AND A VERY PLEASANT WALK; ORLA MANAGED TO DO SOME SWIMMING IN THE RHYNES.

AILEEN, JEAN, ERNEST & ORLA, SPUD, PHILLIP, IAN & STEVE MERCHANT

WE USED BUSES FROM WESTON TO UPHILL, DISEMBARKING AT LOXTON ROAD, CORONATION ESTATE. WE WALKED FROM HERE TO THE BEACH, MEETING STEVE AND HIS TWO DOGS AND IAN ALONG THE WAY. IT WAS HARD GOING ALONG THE BEACH AS THE SAND WAS VERY DEEP AND UNDULATING DUE TO THE ENDURO BIKE RACE LAST WEEKEND. THE COUNCIL WERE WORKING HARD MOVING THE SAND AND CLEARING THE AREA. THE DOGS WERE HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME CHASING BALLS AND ROLLING IN THE SAND. AT ONE POINT WE HAD TO WALK ON THE PAVEMENTS ALONG MARINE PARADE DUE TO THE HEAVY MACHINERY WORKING. WE CONTINUED ALONG THE BEACH, IAN AND STEVE LEAVING US ALONG HERE AS THEY HAD PRIOR COMMITMENTS. WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT THE TERRACE CAFE FOR LUNCH. AFTER A LOVELY MEAL WE STROLLED BACK ALONG MARINE LAKE AND THE BEACH TO THE BUS STOP AT VICTORIAN CAFE, MARINE PARADE.

IT WAS A VERY COLD WIND BLOWING BUT MOSTLY SUNNY.

AILEEN, SPUD, ERNEST, PHILLIP, JEAN AND IAIN

WE ALL MET AT THE VICTORIAN CAFE AT 10.42 AM ON MARINE PARADE, WESTON-SUPER-MARE. FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG THE BEACH TOWARDS ANCHOR HEAD, CONTINUING ON ALONG THE FOOTPATH ON KEWSTOKE ROAD BEFORE JOINING THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH INTO WORLEBURY WOODS. THIS IS A LONG, STEEP CLIMB UP TOWARDS THE WATER TOWER. AFTER A SHORT REST, SHARING MANY OF THE SWEETS ERNEST HAD BOUGHT EARLIER, WE CONTINUED DOWN ANOTHER FOOTPATH WHICH LEAD US TO SAND BAY CAR PARK. FROM HERE WE STROLLED ALONG THE TOP OF THE SAND DUNES AND HAD A PICNIC LUNCH IN THE SHELTER, ENJOYING THE SHADE AND BREEZE. AFTER LUNCH WE HAD A DEMOCRATIC VOTE AS TO WHETHER WE WALK BACK TO WESTON OR USE THE OPEN TOP BUS. THE BUS WON!! FROM WESTON WE ALL MADE OUR WAY BACK HOME, WALKING OR USING BUSES.

A VERY HOT DAY BUT WE HAD PLENTY OF SHADE IN THE WOODS.

AILEEN, SPUD, ERNEST, ORLA AND PHILLIP TRAVELLED TO CLEVEDON ON THE X5 BUS TO MEET JEAN. IT WAS RAINING WHEN WE LEFT WESTON AND STILL RAINING WHEN WE ARRIVED IN CLEVEDON!

WE WALKED ALONG ALL SAINTS LANE AND ENTERED CLEVEDON WOODS, PASSING ALL SAINTS CHURCH ON OUR LEFT. THERE ARE SEVERAL PATHS TO CHOOSE FROM IN THE WOODS SO WE WALKED TO THE TOP OF THE WOODS, CLOSE TO THE BRIDGE WHICH CROSSES THE M5 MOTORWARY. AS WE WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE DRY TO HAVE OUR PICNIC LUNCH LATER, WE CONTINUED THROUGH THE WOODS, DESCENDING INTO THE GORDANO VALLEY. WE JOINED HARLEY LANE, LEADING INTO MOOR LANE, CROSSING THE GORDANO VALLEY NATURE RESERVE, SPUD TELLING THE GROUP HE COULD SEE A VERY NERVOUS WILD DEER RUNNING AWAY FROM US INTO THE WOODS. ORLA OBVIOUSLY FRIGHTENED THE DEER (ORLA WEARS A COLLAR WITH A BELL ATTACHED WHEN ON HER FREE RUN).  REACHING WALTON-IN-GORDANO , WE CROSSED THE B3124 AND JOINED WALTON STREET. A COUPLE OF HUNDRED YARDS ALONG HERE WE TURNED LEFT, JOINING A PUBLIC FOOTPATH. THIS WAS SIGNPOSTED TO ST. PAUL’S CHURCH. JEAN SUGGESTED WE MAY BE ABLE TO HAVE A DRY LUNCH INSIDE THE PORCH OF SAID CHURCH. LUCKILY, SHE WAS CORRECT AND WE SPENT THIRTY MINUTES IN THE DRY. AFTER LUNCH WE CONTINUED ALONG THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH, CROSSING CLEVEDON GOLF COURSE, AVOIDING THE GOLF BALLS!! FROM HERE WE CONTINUED ALONG SIDE ROADS THROUGH THE TOP OF CLEVEDON, EVENTUALLY WALKING DOWN ZIG ZAG, A VERY, VERY STEEP PATH LEADING TO THE TOP OF HILL ROAD. WE CONTINUED ON TO CLEVEDON’S SEA FRONT, STOPPING FOR A COFFEE AT SCARLETT’S RESTAURANT WHERE WE MET JO, FROM BACKWELL, ONE OF OUR MEMBERS. ERNEST WANTED SOME CHIPS WITH HIS DRINK, BUT THEY WERE ASKING £3 A PORTION.OUTRAGEOUS!! SO HE CHOSE TO HAVE A DELUXE MUG OF DRINKING CHOCOLATE WHICH CONSISTED OF CHOCOLATE, TOPPED WITH CREAM AND SPRINKLINGS OF CHOCOLATE FINISHED OFF WITH LOTS AND LOTS OF TINY MARSHMALLOWS ON THE TOP, PLUS A BUTTERED TEA CAKE WITH STRAWBERRY JAM. BETTER THAN ANY CHIPS!!! FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG THE SEA FRONT, STILL RAINING, BACK THROUGH THE TOWN TO NORTHERN WAY, WHERE WE SAID GOODBYE TO JEAN. WE CAUGHT THE X5 BACK TO WESTON AND PHILLIP CAUGHT THE X7 TO CONGRESBURY.

A VERY WET DAY BUT A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.

AILEEN, SPUD, PHILLIP, JEAN, ERNEST & ORLA AND IAIN (A NEW MEMBER)

JEAN, PHILLIP AND IAIN WERE MET OFF THEIR APPROPRIATE BUSES ON THE NEW BRISTOL ROAD, WORLE AT APPROXIMATELY 10.20 AM. WE WALKED ALONG STATION ROAD AND MET UP WITH ERNEST & ORLA OUTSIDE THE KING’S HEAD, THE SCAURS, WORLE. WE PROCEEDED TOWARDS THE QUEENSWAY THROUGH FIELDS AND FOOTPATHS, CONTINUING ON TOWARDS THE MANOR INN WHERE PHYLLIS AND JESSIE (ONE OF HER DOGS) JOINED US. WE TURNED INTO CALLUM LANE, HEADING TOWARDS WOODSPRING PRIORY. WE CONTINUED ONTO THE CAR PARK AND ALONG FOOTPATHS CLIMBING TOWARDS ST. THOMAS’S HEAD. WE CONTINUED ALONG THE HILLSIDE ENJOYING THE SEA AIR AND BEAUTIFUL VIEWS. STEPS LED US DOWN TO THE NATIONAL TRUST CAR PARK AT SAND BAY. WE CONTINUED ALONG THE ROAD/BEACH TOWARDS THE BUS TERMINUS WHERE WE CAUGHT THE BUS INTO WESTON. WE ENJOYED A VERY PLEASANT MEAL AT THE COBOT HOTEL. AFTER LUNCH WE CAUGHT THE BUS BACK HOME, JEAN CONTINUING ON TO CLEVEDON.

THE FOUR OF US MET IN WORLE AT APPROXIMATELY 10.15 AM AND WALKED THROUGH SIDE STREETS AND FOOTPATHS HEADING TOWARDS WORLEBURY WOODS. THIS IS QUITE A CLIMB BUT WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. UPON REACHING THE WATER TOWER WE FOLLOWED THE PATH DOWN TOWARDS KEWSTOKE, WHERE WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT THE COMMODORE HOTEL. AFTER A LOVELY MEAL WE CONTINUED OUT WALK THROUGH THE CAR PARK AND ONTO THE PATH ALONG THE EDGE OF THE WOODS AND PARALLEL WITH THE TOLL ROAD. THIS IS VERY STEEP IN PLACES BUT THERE ARE A FEW SEATS TO REST OUR WEARY LEGS. WE EXITED THE WOODS CLOSE TO BIRNBECK PIER END ENJOYED THE WALK ALONG MARINE LAKE AND EVENTUALLY WESTON SANDS. WE CAUGHT THE BUS BACK TO WORLE, JEAN STAYED ON UNTIL CLEVEDON.

AILEEN, ANDREW, ERNEST & ORLA, SPUD AND JEAN

SPUD & AILEEN MET ANDREW AND ERNEST IN WORLE AND CAUGHT THE X5 BUS TO CLEVEDON, WHERE WE MET JEAN.

WE BEGAN OUR RAMBLE IN THE CENTRE OF CLEVEDON, WALKING UP STRAWBERRY HILL, THROUGH THE WOODS, UP TO DIAL HILL, PAST THE GOLF COURSE AND REACHING CLEVEDON CASTLE. WE RESTED HERE AND HAD LUNCH.   AFTER LUNCH WE NOTICED SOME PEOPLE WERE PREPARING THE CASTLE GROUNDS FOR A WEDDING THE NEXT DAY AND THEY VERY KINDLY INVITED US IN THE CASTLE TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND. BEAUTIFUL! SEE PHOTO IN OUR PHOTO LINK.

WE CONTINUED THROUGH FOOTPATHS WHICH BROUGHT US DOWN A VERY STEEP HILL AND ONTO THE CLEVEDON TO PORTISHEAD COASTAL PATH. FROM HERE WE CONTINUED INTO CLEVEDON AND CAUGHT THE X5 BUS BACK TO WESTON.

AILEEN, SPUD, ERNEST & ORLA, ANDREW AND JEAN. PHILLIP JOINED US AT SANDFORD.

WE CAUGHT THE BUS TO WINSCOMBE AND JOINED THE STRAWBERRY LINE, HEADING TOWARDS SANDFORD. WE CROSSED THE ROAD HERE, WALKING THROUGH THE APPLE ORCHARD AT THE REAR OF THATHER’S CIDER, TURNING LEFT INTO NYE ROAD. THERE IS NO FOOTPATH HERE AND WE HAD TO WALK ALONG THE BUSY ROAD. WE JOINED THE NEXT SECTION OF THE STRAWBERRY LINE, WHICH IS ON THE RIGHT, AFTER WALKING OVER THE DISUSED RAILWAY BRIDGE. CONTINUING ALONG HERE WE PASSED MENDIP SPRINGS GOLF COURSE ON THE RIGHT AND THE FISHING GROUNDS AND CAFÉ ON THE LEFT. THIS BROUGHT US INTO CONGRESBURY. USING THE PELICAN CROSSING WE WALKED ALONG THE SIDE OF THE RIVER YEO FOR A SHORT TIME THEN TURNED RIGHT ONTO THE CONGRESBURY TO YATTON SECTION OF THE STRAWBERRY LINE. FROM HERE WE HEADED TO THE MAIN ROAD THROUGH YATTON TO CATCH OUR APPROPRIATE BUSES TO TAKE US HOME.

WEATHER – DRY AND SUNNY, WITH A STRONG WIND.

WE MET AT THE PIER IN WESTON AND WALKED ALONG THE SEA FRONT TOWARDS UPHILL WHARF. CONTINUED ON TO THE NEW CYCLE/FOOTBATH TO BREAN WHICH OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON 1ST MAY THIS YEAR.

HAD A PICNIC LUNCH ALONG THE WAY BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE BUS STOP NEAR BREAN SANDS TO MAKE OUR WAY BACK TO WESTON USING THE OPEN DECK NO. 20 COASTLINER BUS.

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER, 24 DEGREES WITH A LOVELY SOUTHERLY WIND.

SIX MILES IN TOTAL.

RAMBLE FRIDAY 21ST APRIL 2017

SPUD, AILEEN, CLARE, ERNEST & ORLA

WE TRAVELLED TO WINSCOMBE BY CAR WHERE WE PARKED AND BEGAN OUR RAMBLE, ALONG THE STRAWBERRY LINE. DRY UNDERFOOT AND AN EASY FLAT WALK.

WE PASSED THROUGH AXBRIDGE, HAVING TO COME OFF THE STRAWBERRY LINE, AND WALKED ALONG ROADS AND PAVEMENTS. THIS TOOK US PAST THE ENTRANCE TO AXBRIDGE RESERVOIR WHICH WE COULD SEE IN THE DISTANCE. MET SOME LOVELY PEOPLE OUT WALKING THEIR DOGS AND LOTS OF POLITE CYCLISTS. BIRDS SINGING IN THE TREES, A PERFECT SPRING WALK.

WE REJOINED THE STRAWBERRY LINE AND CONTINUED ON TO CHEDDAR, WHERE WE HAD LUNCH AT THE RIVERSIDE INN.

SPUD AND AILEEN MET ANDREW, ERNEST & ORLA IN WORLE AND DROVE TO HUTTON, PARKING IN A LAY BY. CLARE MET JEAN FROM THE BUS AT HOMEBASE AND MET US IN THE LAY BY.

WE BAGAN THE RAMBLE BY CROSSING THE MAIN ROAD AT HUTTON AND WALKING UP THE HILL TOWARDS THE WOODS. TURNING LEFT WE WALKED ALONG TO THE CHURCH IN HUTTON, CROSSED ROADS AND CONTINUED ON TO WINDMILL ROAD, TURNING RIGHT TO CONTINUE UP THE HILL. HALF WAY UP THE HILL WE TURNED RIGHT, CARRYING ALONG FIELDS AND PATHS EVENTUALLY REACHING CANADA COMBE. FROM HERE WE WALKED DOWNHILL HEADING TOWARDS THE OLD INN, HUTTON FOR LUNCH.

WEATHER COLD BUT BECAME MUCH WARMER TOWARDS MIDDAY. VERY MUDDY IN PLACES.

ERNEST & ORLA, JEAN, ANDREW, CLARE AND POPPY, CLARE’S PET DOG,  AILEEN & SPUD

CLARE MET JEAN OFF THE X5 BUS AT HOMEBASE, WESTON-SUPER-MARE, AND AILEEN AND SPUD MET ANDREW AND ERNEST IN WORLE. WE ALL TRAVELLED TO A LAY-BY IN HUTTON TO COMMENCE OUR RAMBLE.

AFTER CROSSING THE BUSY ROAD IN HUTTON WE USED PUBLIC FOOTPATHS AND QUIET ROAD THROUGHOUT THE WALK. TRAVERSING A DRY PATH WE HEADED IN THE DIRECTION OF THE WOODS. TURNING LEFT WE HEADED TOWARDS HUTTON CHURCH. WE CONTINUED IN THIS DIRECTION, PASSING THE CHURCH ON OUR RIGHT, DOWN ANOTHER SMALL PATH WHICH BECAME VERY MUDDY UNDER FOOT. EVENTUALLY WE CAME BACK TO THE MAIN ROAD AND CONTINUED FOR A FEW YARDS BEFORE TURNING RIGHT INTO WINDMILL LANE, CLIMBING A STEEP HILL. THERE WERE VERY FEW CARS ALONG THIS ROAD. QUITE NEAR TO THE TOP OF THIS LANE WE TURNED RIGHT ONTO ANOTHER MUDDY PATH. EVENTUALLY THIS LED US ONTO A ROAD IN CANADA COMBE. DOWNHILL ALL THE WAY UNTIL TURNING LEFT ONTO ANOTHER MUDDY FOOTPATH WHICH EVENTUALLY BROUGHT US ONTO THE HUTTON ROAD. WE CROSSED THIS ROAD WITH CARE AND VISITED THE OLD INN FOR LUNCH. A TOTAL OF SEVEN VARIOUS TYPES OF STILES/KISSING GATES DURING THIS RAMBLE.

TOTAL LENGTH OF WALK – 5 MILES. A BEAUTIFUL SUNNY DAY, COOL WIND AT THE START OF THE RAMBLE BUT THE WEATHER BECAME VERY WARM HALF WAY THROUGH THE MORNING.

ERNEST & ORLA, PHILLIP, AILEEN, SPUD, ANDY

WE CAUGHT THE X5 BUS TO CLEVEDON TO MEET ANDY WHO WAS TRAVELLING FROM PORTISHEAD ON THE X5 BUS. WE MADE OUR WAY ALONG OLD STREET, CLEVEDON AND ENTERED THE WOODS.

WALKED UPHILL FOR QUITE A WHILE BEFORE TRAVERSING ALONG THE TOP AREA TO CROSS THE MOTORWAY BRIDGE. OUR ROUTE TOOK US THROUGH TREES, QUIET ROADS AND NARROW LANES BEFORE REACHING THE BLACK HORSE AT CLAPTON-IN-GORDANO WHERE WE HAD LUNCH AND A WELCOME REST. CLARE, OUR NEW VOLUNTEER, MET US HERE, AFTER TRAVELLING BY CAR FROM WESTON, AS SHE HAD INJURED HER BACK EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND WASN’T ABLE TO JOIN US FOR THE RAMBLE. WE CONTINUED ON TOWARDS PORTISHEAD THROUGH MUDDY FIELDS AND QUIET LANES WHERE WE CAUGHT A BUS BACK TO WESTON AND ANDY STROLLED HOME.

TOTAL LENGTH OF WALK – 8 MILES. IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY, 3 DEGREES, BUT VERY SUNNY AND A PERFECT DAY FOR A RAMBLE.

SPUD, AILEEN, ERNEST, ORLA, PHILLIP, JEAN, ANDY & BARNY

WE USED BUSES FROM WESTON, CLEVEDON AND PORTISHEAD, MEETING AT ASHTON COURT, BRISTOL. WALKED UP THE HILLY SLOPES OF ASHTON COURT, LEAVING THIS AREA BY THE TOP GATE NEAR TO THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE. CROSSED THE BRIDGE, HEADING TOWARD THE OBSERVATORY, WHERE WE HAD A PICNIC LUNCH. AFTERWARDS WE CONTINUED WALKING DOWN TO BRANDON HILL AND MADE OUR WAY THROUGH THE CLIFTON SHOPPING AREA, HEADING TOWARDS HOT WELLS TO CATCH OUR RESPECTIVE BUSES HOME.

LOVELY WARM WEATHER, SLIGHT BREEZE. 5½ MILES

FRIDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER 2016

AILEEN, SPUD, JEAN, ERNEST & ORLA

WE CAUGHT THE X5 BUS FROM WESTON, JEAN JOINING US AT OLD STREET, CLEVEDON AND ALIGHTED IN HILL ROAD, CLEVEDON. WE WALKED TOWARDS THE PIER AND ACCESSED THE COASTAL PATH TO PORTISHEAD.

A VERY STRENUOUS UP AND DOWN HIKE ALONG THE COASTAL PATH WITH VIEWS OF THE BRISTOL CHANNEL. WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH IN A GRASSED AREA THEN CONTINUED TO THE SEA FRONT AT PORTISHEAD. AS WE HAD QUITE A LONG TIME TO WAIT FOR OUR BUSES HOME WE STOPPED AT AN ICE CREAM PARLOUR, ENJOYING THE LOVELY WEATHER AND AVAILABLE REFRESHMENTS.

SPUD, AILEEN, ANDY, BARNY (DOG), ERNEST, ORLA (GUIDE DOG), PHILLIP, MATTHEW AND ROBIN (GUIDE DOG).

WE MET IN WESTON AT 10.30 AM AND CAUGHT THE 100 CROSVILLE BUS TO SAND BAY.

WE BEGAN THE RAMBLE AT SAND BAY WHERE THE THREE DOGS HAD A LOVELY RUN ALONG THE BEACH BEFORE WE BEGAN THE CLIMB TO SAND POINT, USING THE ACCESS FROM THE NATIONAL TRUST CAR PARK. WE CONTINUED IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION TOWARDS ST. THOMAS’S HEAD, DROPPING DOWN TO THE LOWER AREA WHERE WE STOPPED FOR OUR PICNIC LUNCH. WE CONTINUED ON TOWARDS WOODSPRING PRIORY, TURNING LEFT ONTO THE QUIET ROAD HEADING IN THE DIRECTION OF MANOR FARM. UPON REACHING THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH WE TURNED RIGHT HEADING IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION BACK TOWARDS THE BEACH, USING LOTS OF NEW GATES AND BRIDGES, CROSSING A NUMBER OF FIELDS IN ORDER TO REACH BEACH ROAD. WE CONTINUED LEFT BACK TOWARDS THE TERMINUS TO BOARD THE 100 BUS BACK TO WESTON.

SPUD, AILEEN, ERNEST & ORLA, PHILLIP.

WE TRAVELLED IN THE CAR TO BURRINGTON COMBE, SOMERSET, PARKING IN THE TOP LAY-BYE.IT WAS A STEEP CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE LARGE ROCK, SEE PHOTO, AND THEN A STEADY WALK DOWN TO THE VILLAGE OF BURRINGTON, GETTING LOST QUITE A FEW TIMES. WE WALKED THROUGH THE PRETTY VILLAGE AND HAD LUNCH ON THE GREEN AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH/SCHOOL.

A HARD CLIMB BACK UP TO THE PEAK, VARYING OUR ROUTE, WHERE WE MET A LOVELY LOCAL LADY OUT WALKING AND SHE POINTED US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BACK TO THE CAR PARK.

6 MILES IN TOTAL. SUN, WIND AND A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS.

SPUD, PHILLIP, ANDREW, AILEEN, ERNEST & ORLA.

WE MET IN WESTON NEAR THE SUBWAY SHOP AND CAUGHT THE 9.40 AM NO.4 BUS TO HUTTON. ALIGHTING HERE AFTER A 20 MINUTE RIDE WE WALKED TOWARDS THE CHURCH AND FOLLOWED A PATH UP THROUGH THE WOODS WHICH WAS A VERY LONG CLIMB. WALKING IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION WE CONTINUED ON TO CANADA COMBE WHERE WE JOINED THE WEST MENDIP WAY, FOLLOWING THIS FOR A MILE UNTIL WE REACHED A TARMACED ROAD, WALKING ALONG HERE, EVENTUALLY REACHING THE HAMLET OF CHRISTON WHERE WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH IN THE CHURCH GROUNDS. AFTER LUNCH WE FOLLOWED A PUBLIC FOOTPATH PASSING A FARMHOUSE AND ENTERING A FIELD. CROSSING ANOTHER FIELD WE ENTERED A SMALL WOOD WHICH EVENTUALLY LED US TO ANOTHER FIELD. AT THE END OF THIS FIELD WE CLIMBED A STILE BRINGING US ONTO A TARMACED ROAD. WE CARRIED ON IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION ENDING UP ON WINDMILL ROAD, LEFT THROUGH AND OVER ANOTHER STILE UNTIL WE CAME TO THE MAIN ROAD IN HUTTON WHERE WE CAUGHT THE NO. 4 BUS BACK TO WESTON. 7 STILES IN TOTAL ON THIS RAMBLE.

JEAN, PHILLIP, AILEEN, ANDY AND BARNY, ERNEST AND ORLA.

PHILLIP, JEAN, ANDY AND MYSELF MET UP ON THE NEW BRISTOL ROAD AND WALKED TOWARDS WORLE TO MEET ANDREW AND ERNEST.

WE WALKED UP SPRING HILL, ALONG UPPER CHURCH ROAD, THROUGH FOOTPATHS TO JOIN MILTON HILL. WE TURNED INTO WORLEBURY HILL ROAD AND ENTERED WESTON WOODS. WE MADE OUR WAY ALONG THE PATHS AND EXITED ON KEWSTOKE ROAD, CONTINUING ON TO THE COMMODORE HOTEL FOR LUNCH.

AFTER LUNCH WE JOINED THE FOOTPATH/ CYCLE PATH ALONG THE SIDE OF THE TOLL ROAD/WESTON WOODS AS FAR AS BIRNBECK ROAD. HERE WE CONTINUED ALONG ANCHOR HEAD, MARINE LAKE AND ONTO MARINE PARADE. ANDREW LEFT THE GROUP NEAR WESTON COLLEGE TO WALK ON HOME. THE REMAINDER OF THE GROUP CONTINUED ALONG THE SEA FRONT TO THE VICTORIAN CAFÉ WHERE WE HAD REFRESHMENTS WHILST WAITING FOR THE X6 BUS TO TAKE JEAN AND ANDY HOME. ERNEST AND AILEEN CAUGHT THEIR BUS HOME.

SPUD, AILEEN, PHILLIP AND ANDREW WE MET PHILLIP AT THE BUS STOP ON THE NEW BRISTOL ROAD AND WALKED TO WORLE HIGH STREET TO MEET ANDREW. WE WALKED TOWARDS ST MARTINS CHURCH IN WORLE AND CONTINUED UP THROUGH THE CHURCH YARD, ACROSS SEVERAL LANES AND CAME TO THE OLDER PART OF WESTON WOODS CLOSE TO WORLEBURY GOLF COURSE. WE USED THE FOOTPATHS AROUND THE SIDE OF THE GOLF COURSE, CONTINUED ALONG WORLEBURY HILL ROAD AND JOINED THE MAIN WESTON WOODS, EXITING ALONG THE TOLL ROAD INTO WESTON. FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG WESTON SEA FRONT AND CROSSED SEVERAL ROADS TO ACCESS THE REGENCY INN, WHERE WE HAD LUNCH. AFTER LUNCH ANDREW WALKED HOME AND SPUD, PHILLIP AND MYSELF CAUGHT OUR APPROPRIATE BUSES BACK HOME. THE WEATHER WAS DAMP BUT MILD, VERY WINDY ONCE WE ARRIVED AT THE SEA FRONT. 5 MILES IN TOTAL.

SPUD, AILEEN, PHILLIP, ERNEST, ANDREW WE TRAVELLED ON THE X1 BUS TO BACKWELL TRAFFIC LIGHTS. BEGAN THE WALK TURNING INTO STATION ROAD, BACKWELL, TURNING RIGHT ONTO A SIDE ROAD PASSING LOVELY OLD COTTAGES. EVENTUALLY WE JOINED THE CYCLE/FOOTPATH HEADING TOWARDS LONG ASHTON. WE HAD LUNCH AT GATCOMBE FARM, A LOVELY CARVERY. AFTER A WELCOME REST WE CONTINUED WALKING ALONG THE FOOTPATH TOWARDS LONG ASHTON, WALKED THROUGH THE CHURCHYARD AND CAUGHT THE BUS HOME TO WESTON OUTSIDE THE ANGEL PUB. WEATHER WINDY AND LIGHT DRIZZLE AT TIMES. 5 MILES IN TOTAL WALKING.

THE GROUP MET AT CONGRESBURY, USING BUSES. THE RAMBLE BEGAN AT THE SHIP AND CASTLE AND CONTINUED OVER THE FIELDS TO THE CENTRE OF WRINGTON. LUNCH WAS EATEN IN THE LOCAL PARK. THE RAIN CAME DOWN HEAVILY AND AS ANDREW DID NOT HAVE A COAT A DECISION WAS MADE TO CATCH THE A2 BUS TO WESTON.

WALKED THREE MILES IN TOTAL.

WE CAUGHT THE 09.45 X5 TO PORTISHEAD, JEAN JOINING THE BUS AT CLEVEDON. MET ANDY AND BARNY AT COMBE ROAD BUS STOP. AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES WE CAUGHT THE X3 TO BRISTOL, ALIGHTING AT A REMOTE BUS STOP ON SHEEPWAY. WE WALKED ALONG THE ROAD FOR A WHILE BEFORE TURNING INTO WHARF ROAD AND JOINING THE FOOTPATH AROUND THE NATURE RESERVE. MOSTLY DRY UNDERFOOT WITH A FEW PARTS QUITE MUDDY WHERE THE HORSES HAD BEEN RIDING. WE CONTINUED ON TOWARDS THE MARINA WALKING ALONGSIDE SOME LARGE PONDS. STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT THE ROYAL INN OVERLOOKING THE RIVER SEVERN. DEPARTED THE INN AT APPROX. 3PM, STROLLING ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE MARINA ARRIVING AT COMBE ROAD IN TIME TO CATCH THE 3.40 PM X5 BACK TO WESTON VIA. CLEVEDON.

IT WAS A WARM AND SUNNY DAY. WALKED FIVE MILES.

CONGRESBURY TO THE STAR INN, RHODYATE, 7½ MILES MATTHEW, ANN, ANDY, ANDREW, ERNEST AND ORLA, AILEEN, SPUD AND JEAN. WE CAUGHT THE 9.50 AM X1 BUS FROM WESTON SEA FRONT TO CONGRESBURY, WHERE WE MET UP WITH ANDY AND JEAN WHO HAD TRAVELLED TO MEET US ABOARD THE X5 FROM PORTISHEAD AND CLEVEDON RESPECTIVELY. WE BEGAN OUR RAMBLE ON THE BRISTOL SIDE OF THE ROAD BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER YEO AT CONGRESBURY. UNDERFOOT WAS MUDDY IN PLACES BUT THE WEATHER WAS A VERY PLEASANT 20 DEGREES CENTIGRADE WITH A SLIGHT BREEZE, PERFECT FOR WALKING. WE EVENTUALLY JOINED THE RAILWAY PATH HEADING TOWARDS YATTON STATION WHERE WE USED THEIR FACILITIES. A SHORT WALK ALONG THE FOOTPATH AT YATTON BEFORE JOINING THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH HEADING TOWARDS CLAVERHAM AND EVENTUALLY THE STAR INN AT RHODYATE. LUNCH WAS A VERY WELCOME BREAK BEFORE WALKING DOWN THE HILL ON THE VERY BUSY A370 TO THE BUS STOPS AT CONGRESBURY FOR THE JOURNEY HOME.

CONGRESBURY TO THE STAR INN, RHODYATE, 7½ MILES MATTHEW, ANN, ANDY, ANDREW, ERNEST AND ORLA, AILEEN, SPUD AND JEAN. WE CAUGHT THE 9.50 AM X1 BUS FROM WESTON SEA FRONT TO CONGRESBURY, WHERE WE MET UP WITH ANDY AND JEAN WHO HAD TRAVELLED TO MEET US ABOARD THE X5 FROM PORTISHEAD AND CLEVEDON RESPECTIVELY. ERNEST AND ORLA, PHYLLIS, AILEEN AND SPUD ASHTON COURT TO BRISTOL AND RETURN, FRIDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2014. WE CAUGHT THE 10.15 AM W1 BUS FROM LOCKING ROAD, PHYLLIS JOINING US AT ST GEORGES. ALIGHTING AT ASHTON COURT WE CONTINUED ON TO THE TOP OF ASHTON COURT EXITING AT THE TOP GATE AND CONTINUING ON TO THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE. THIS WAS A FIRST FOR ERNEST – HE HAD NEVER BEEN ON THE BRIDGE BEFORE. AFTER USING THE FACILITIES AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE BRIDGE WE CONTINUED ALONG THE PATH TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BRIDGE CLIMBING UP TO THE OBSERVATORY. WE PICNICKED ON A SEAT WITH A WONDERFUL VIEW OVER THE BRIDGE. AFTER A VERY WELCOME REST AND AN ICE CREAM WE CONTINUED ON TO BRANDON HILL, PASSING THROUGH THE STREETS AND ATMOSPHERE OF CLIFTON. SPUD, ERNEST AND ORLA CLIMBED THE CABOT TOWER WHILST AILEEN AND PHYLLIS RESTED ON A SEAT AMONGST THE TREES. A LOVELY QUIET, PEACEFUL PLACE TO REST AND CONTEMPLATE THE MAGNIFICENCE OF BRISTOL. WE CONTINUED ON THROUGH THE PARK, TURNED LEFT ONTO JACOB’S WELLS ROAD AND STROLLED ALONG THE WIDE FOOTPATH AT HOWELLS, WALKING ALONGSIDE THE RIVER AVON, CATCHING THE X1 BUS BACK TO WESTON ON THE CORNER OF MERCHANT’S ROAD. ANOTHER WONDERFUL RAMBLE, 5 MILES, ON A HOT SUNNY DAY IN SEPTEMBER.

MET JEAN AT NORTHERN WAY AND WALKED AROUND THE CORNER TO MEET ANDY OFF THE X5 FROM PORTISHEAD. WALKED THROUGH THE WOODS AT CLEVEDON, CROSSED THE MOTORWAY BRIDGE. ON TOWARDS CADBURY HILL CAMP WHERE WE STOPPED FOR OUR PICNIC LUNCH. ON TOWARDS CLAPTON-IN-GORDANO WHERE WE HAD A REST AND A DRINK AT THE BLACK HORSE 17TH C PUB. PROCEEDED DOWN LANES AND FOOTPATHS TOWARDS PORTISHEAD. CALLED IN AT ANDY’S MUM AND DAD’S FOR A WELCOME CUPPA BEFORE MAKING OUR WAY TO COMBE ROAD TO CATCH THE 18.05 BUS BACK TO WESTON. WEATHER DRY AND SUNNY MOSTLY WITH A FEW SHORT SHOWERS. EIGHT AND A HALF MILE WALK.

NAILSEA MOOR – CIRCULAR WALK 6 MILES CAR TO NAILSEA. ANDREW, ERNEST, ORLA, SPUD, AILEEN & JEAN. BEGAN WALK AT CHURCH CAR PARK JUST OFF THE TICKENHAM ROAD OPPOSITE CHURCH. ACROSS FIELDS AND FOLLOWING THE RIVERS AROUND NAILSEA MOOR. LOTS OF STYLES! PICNIC LUNCH. A VERY HOT DAY (78F) WITH A SLIGHT BREEZE.

AILEEN, SPUD, ANDREW, ERNEST, ORLA, EILEEN, ANDY GILL, PHILLIP, MATTHEW. DROVE TO CONGRESBURY IN CARS, MET ANDY AND PHILLIP AT BUS STOP AND CONTINUED ON TO BLAGDON. HEAVY RAIN ON THE JOURNEY THERE BUT THE CLOUDS CLEARED AND WE BEGAN OUR WALK NEAR THE CHURCHYARD IN BLAGDON. IT WAS A CIRCULAR 6 MILE WALK, STOPPING FOR A PICNIC LUNCH ON THE GREEN AT UBLEY. AN INTERESTING COUNTRYSIDE WALK WITH WONDERFUL VIEWS OF BLAGDON LAKE, QUITE A FEW STYLES AND VERY A LOVELY SUMMER DAY WITH ONLY ONE SHORT STOP TO SHELTER FROM A RAIN STORM.

WE TRAVELLED ON THE NO. 1 BUS FROM WESTON TO THE DOVE COTE, ASHTON COURT, BRISTOL. FOLLOWING THE MARKED FOOTPATH THROUGH THE ESTATE WE JOINED THE ROAD LEADING TO THE FOOTPATH ALONG THE RIVER AVON, HEADING TOWARDS PILL. ARRIVING AT HAM GREEN WE PROCEEDED ONTO PILL AND TRAVELLED ON THE BUS TO PORTISHEAD. LUNCH IN THE ALBION PUBLIC HOUSE BEFORE TAKING THE BUS HOME TO WESTON-SUPER-MARE.

A WET DAY BUT WE WERE ALL PREPARED FOR THIS AND HAD A VERY ENJOYABLE 6 MILE RAMBLE.

FRIDAY 10TH JANUARY 2014

DEPARTED WESTON AT 10.40AM ON THE 121 BUS TO WINSCOMBE. JOINED THE DISUSED STRAWBERRY LINE IN THE DIRECTION OF CHEDDAR, ARRIVING IN CHEDDAR AT APPROX. 1.45 PM. HAD LUNCH IN THE RIVERSIDE INN. CAUGHT THE 4.01PM BUS 126 BACK TO WESTON. A LOVELY RAMBLE ON THE FLAT, MAINLY DRY UNDERFOOT, TEMPERATURE 10 º CENTIGRADE, NO WIND. 5 MILES.

WALKED ALONG BEACH AT BREAN, 1¾ MILES, AROUND THE DOWN, PICNIC LUNCH NEAR THE FORT. RETURNED OVER THE TOP OF THE DOWN, BACK ALONG THE BEACH AND BACK TO WESTON ON THE BUS. 6½ MILES. MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS TRAVELLED HOME FROM WESTON ON THE APPROPRIATE BUSES.

CONTINUED TO REDCLIFFE BAY, WESTON IN GORDANO, PORTISHEAD. 6 MILES PHILLIP WATTS, SPUD MILSOM, ANDREW LINDELL, PHYLLIS STUCKEY, SANDRA KING, AILEEN MILSOM, ERNEST GOSLING CAUGHT THE BUS BACK TO WESTON. ANOTHER LOVELY SUNNY DAY.

WALKED ALONG FOOTPATH TOWARDS CHURCHILL, TURNED RIGHT UP TO LINCOMBE LODGE, THROUGH THE WOODS AND ONTO SHIPHAM. HAD A PICNIC LUNCH ON THE GREEN IN SHIPHAM, MADE OUR WAY BACK TOWARDS WINSCOMBE ALONG THE STRAWBERRY LINE BACK TO CAR PARK. APPROX. 7½ MILES.

WE MET IN THE CAR PARK NEAR WORLE QUARRY AND CLIMBED THE STEEP HILL INTO WESTON WOODS, PART OF WORLEBURY GOLF CLUB, NEAR TO THE OBSERVATORY, A LANDMARK THAT CAN BE SEEN FROM WORLE. THE WEATHER WAS DRY AND SUNNY BUT WINDY. WE HAD LUNCH AT THE REGENCY INN, WESTON BEFORE RETURNING TO THE CAR PARK, A TOTAL DISTANCE OF 8 ¼ MILES.
